Stiff penalties for the Wendy?s Hamburger Customer Fraud Case, where a customer pretended that they found a human finger in their Chili was handed down recently. The prison sentences were huge and this is wonderful to see. This should send a message to all consumer groups that simply making false statements, accusations or even slandering or libeling companies with terrorist tactics to destroy brand name in order to force a company through extortion will not be tolerated.
It should also be a message to regulators that rather than going after companies based on complaints that maybe regulators need to take the side of the businesses over the consumer rather than automatically pointing their figures. Why is it that in the United States of America you are innocent until proven guilty unless you are a business? Remember when the lady supposedly found the finger in the chili; the story was all over the media and went out World Wide within the same day. Yet we later find the whole thing was a compete fabrication.
Not only did she make the whole thing up, she filed a lawsuit for 2.5 million dollars. Additionally the finger in question came from an industrial accident and was stolen. Wendy?s Hamburger was chastised immediately based on this bogus and BS complaint. But now justice is served along with your chili. But how often is justice served, more often than not, the company is damaged and the consumer complainer wins, even though they lied, which is exactly why this criminal thought she could get away with it. Think on this in 2006.
